Backgammon Pro
Backgammon Pro - Play Online
This is classic backgammon, plain and simple. No fancy twists, no power-ups, just you versus the board trying to get all your checkers home before your opponent does. Roll the dice, move your pieces, block your opponent, and bear off first to win. It's the same game your grandparents played, now on your screen.
Key Features
- Two Play Modes: Face off against a computer opponent or challenge a friend locally.
- Classic Backgammon Rules: Authentic gameplay with capturing, doubles, and bearing off mechanics.
- Lightweight Build: Runs smoothly on older devices and low-end browsers without lag.
- Clean Interface: Minimalist board design with clear move indicators when you select a piece.
How to Play Backgammon Pro
The rules are simple to grasp, but winning takes strategy and a bit of luck.
Rolling and Moving Your Checkers
You start with 15 checkers spread across the board. Click to roll the dice, then select one of your checkers to move it the number of spaces shown on the dice. You get two moves per turn, one for each die. If you roll doubles (like 3 and 3), you move four times instead of two. You can only land on empty points, points with your own checkers, or points where your opponent has just one lonely checker.
Capturing and Blocking Your Opponent
Land on a point where your opponent has a single checker, and you send it back to the start—they'll need to re-enter it on their next turn before making other moves. Stack two or more of your checkers on a point to block your opponent from landing there. Smart blocking can trap their pieces and slow them down significantly.
Bearing Off to Win
Once all your checkers reach your home board (the last quarter of the board on your side), you start removing them from the game based on your dice rolls. The first player to bear off all 15 checkers wins. It sounds straightforward, but when you're racing against the clock with the AI making smart blocks, it gets tense.
Who is Backgammon Pro for?
Perfect for older casual players who want a quick game during lunch breaks or anyone looking to sharpen their backgammon skills without distractions. If you grew up playing this at family gatherings, you'll feel right at home. Not flashy enough for kids expecting explosions and unlockables, but solid for traditional board game fans.
The Gameplay Vibe
It's calm and methodical. The game doesn't rush you, and there's no timer countdown stressing you out. Visually, it's utilitarian—flat 2D graphics with basic shadows that get the job done but won't win any art awards. The wood-textured board and glossy buttons look like they're straight out of a 2010 mobile game. There's no music to speak of, just the click of checkers and dice rolls. Honestly, it's great for playing while listening to a podcast or music in the background.
Technical Check: Saves & Performance
The game doesn't appear to save your progress between sessions—if you exit mid-game, you'll probably lose that match. It's designed for quick single sessions anyway. Performance-wise, it's rock solid. The simple graphics mean it'll run on pretty much anything with a browser, even ancient laptops or budget smartphones. No stuttering, no crashes, just smooth checker sliding.
